SKYWLKR - Strawberry Cough (The Instrumentals) (2010)

Genre: Instrumental Hip-Hop
Country: United States

SKYWLKR is probably more well-known for his work with other rappers rather than as sole producer. On Strawberry Cough, SKYWLKR manages to catch the the listener's attention without the use of a rapper to give the beats personality. The beats here tend to be of the cloud rap variety meaning that they are great for letting your mind drift for a bit and just relaxing to.

Banned Books - Mission Creep (2009)

Genre: Indie Rock
Country: United States

Plenty of quirky and playful melodies whether it be the use of xylophones, synths, the shout-y sing-a-along parts, or the use of both clean and heavily distorted guitars can be found here. A short EP full of energy and odd and catchy melodies who's only purpose is for the listener to have fun and get up and dance.

The Kill - Shower Of Bricks (2011)

Genre: Grind
Country: Australia

After a number of years on hold Australia's The Kill returned with this little gem a year before unleashing their second full length (Make em' Suffer).  This ep is essentially 6 minutes if primitive violence set to music that is addictive as all hell, worth the listen for the title track alone.

Guitar - Tokyo (2006)

Genre: Dream Pop, Folk
Country: Germany

Terrible name aside, Guitar mixes a dream pop aesthetic utilizing spacey vocals on a few tracks with Japanese folk giving it a relaxing atmosphere. Those who really enjoy Japanese cultural music will appreciate this and anyone else looking for something to chill out to will also appreciate it.

Forgotten Spell - Opening the Skies of Sulphuric Paradise (2011)

Genre: Black Metal
Country: Germany

This German project has been in existence for a few years now and in that time has put out two full length demos and a split release with Nosvrolok (also posted here).  So far they have yet to put a foot wrong with all of their output being nothing short of amazing, raw as all hell while still writing riffs that stick in your head for days on end these guys need to be heard.

Nasty Taste - Рисуя свой мир... (2010)

Genre: Hardcore Punk
Country: Russia

Another chaotic hardcore punk band tinged with mathcore influences drawn from bands like Converge and The Dillinger Escape Plan using screeching and dizzying riffs sprinkled over breakdowns. One thing worth mentioning that they have a female vocalist who's a pretty great screamer and not a bad singer but the singing is used sparingly so it doesn't break the momentum this album has throughout its run-time.

The black twilight circle return after a relatively quiet spell with this awesome first demo from their latest addition to their ranks.  Following the vein of other btc dm acts Muknal and The Haunting Presence, Acualli provide a swirling blackened glimpse of their nightmare by pulling you in and subjecting you to it's horror.

Burned Out Bright - Burned Out Bright (2004)

Genre: Screamo
Country: United States

If John Galm of Snowing were to front a screamo band, it would probably be this band only because he screams like him during Fuck Your Emotional Bullshit-era Snowing and it has a couple of twinkly riffs and some post rock leanings here and there. The style of screamo played is similar to Saetia's style meaning that they play more off the sad sack of shit kind rather than the violent kind with lo-fi production. Short and sweet and devoid of bullshit in its short run-time so check it out!

Montsegur - Under The Banner Of Witchcraft (2013)

Genre: Raw Black Metal
Country: Russia

Invoking the spirit and feel of the genre' forefathers come Montsegur, a promising new band whose first demo found it's way into my listening not long after it's initial release last year.  Not a lot to say about this other than, if you like black metal you will like this.  Information about the band is very limited but here's hoping that these guys release a full length at some point in the near future as it will no doubt be something to behold.

RiLF - Ferris Wheel (2010)

Genre: Post Rock/Ambient/Dream Pop
Country: Japan

Just think Sigur Ros with more ambient sections and less use of vocals along with spacey vibes and then you have RiLF. This album clearly influenced by Sigur Ros' ( ) using sparse passages throughout the album and is actually structured in a similar way (happier first half that leads to a more darker tone in the second half). Not the most original band out there but at least the music is done well and sounds incredibly lush.
